Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

Overview

We built Copycat around a single principle: your clipboard is none of our business. Everything you copy stays on your Mac, encrypted at rest, and is never sent anywhere. This policy explains what little data we do and don't handle — and why.

Copycat is developed and distributed by Solco, LLC. Questions? Email us at support@meetcopycat.com.

What Copycat stores

Copycat reads text from your clipboard and stores it locally on your Mac as your clipboard history. That's it. This data:

  • Lives only on your device — it is never uploaded, synced, or transmitted anywhere.
  • Is encrypted at rest using AES-GCM. The encryption key is stored in the macOS Keychain and never leaves your device.
  • Stays under your full control at all times. You can clear your history from within the app.

What Copycat never collects

Copycat contains no analytics SDKs, no telemetry, no crash reporters, and no network calls. Specifically, we never collect:

  • Your clipboard contents — they never leave your device.
  • Usage data, events, or behavioral analytics.
  • Device identifiers, IP addresses, or location data.
  • Cookies of any kind.
  • Payment information — we never see your card or billing details (see below).

Sensitive data is automatically skipped

Copycat automatically ignores clipboard items from password managers and apps that mark their pasteboard content as concealed or sensitive. These items are never recorded, never stored, and never shown in your history.

App Store & payments

Copycat is sold exclusively through the Apple Mac App Store. All purchases are processed by Apple Inc. under Apple's own privacy policy and terms. Solco, LLC does not receive, store, or process your payment data at any point. For billing questions or refund requests, please contact Apple Support directly.

Website analytics

This website (meetcopycat.com) uses server-side analytics that collect only aggregate visit counts — total page views, not individual visitors. No personal data is collected, no cookies are set, and no cross-site tracking occurs.

Encryption

All clipboard history is encrypted at rest on your Mac using AES-GCM (256-bit). The encryption key is generated on your device and stored in the macOS Keychain. It never leaves your device, and we have no way to access or decrypt your history.

Data retention & deletion

Your clipboard history is retained locally on your Mac for as long as you keep the app installed, up to the configured history limit (default: 1,000 clips). You can clear your history at any time from within the app. Uninstalling Copycat removes all locally stored data.

Because your data never leaves your device, there is nothing for us to delete on our end — you are always in full control.

Your rights

Because all your data is stored locally on your device and we have no access to it, you already have full control — there's no server-side data for us to provide, correct, or delete on your behalf. If you have questions about data generated through contact with us (e.g., a support email), you may request access, correction, or deletion by contacting us at the address below. We respond within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of Copycat after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
